Friday’s NHL draft action had 32 players chosen in the first round. But from a business perspective, the Creative Artists Agency came out first with 10 clients selected in the first round – the agency’s highest total ever.
Pat Brisson and J.P. Barry have been at the pinnacle of agent representation in hockey for more than a decade and they have never been more successful than they are now.
In last year’s Money and Power issue, Brisson once again was ranked as the No. 1 agent in hockey – continuing his streak as the only person to win that silo in the three years of its existence.
Although the voting for the 2022 People of Power and Influence list has not yet begun, he is the heir apparent and likely winner once again this year.
The one two punch of Brisson and Barry had clients selected No. 1 (Owen Power), No. 2 (Matthew Beniers), No. 4 (Luke Hughes), No. 6 (Simon Edvinsson), No. 14 (Isak Rosen), No. 17 (Zach Bolduc), No. 19 (Fydor Svechkov), No. 24 (Mackie Samoskevich), No. 26 (Carlos Lambos) and No. 30 (Zach Dean).
It’s no fluke that this pair of super agents are so successful at this stage in their careers. Over the decades when I have spoken with them both about their business, they always start off talking about the importance of providing the best service to their clients.
Serving your clients is always the most important part of any business and this applies to any business in any industry. This helps keep your existing clients.
In order to get new clients, you rely on your reputation of providing great service and the best form of advertising is word of mouth. Clearly, the word on the street is that if you want to get drafted one day, get an agent with a stellar reputation for providing great service.
Although there are many great agents to choose from, Brisson and Barry are No. 1 in the first round of the 2021 NHL draft.
