1ST STAR: JAN MYSAK (HAMILTON BULLDOGS) – 3G, 1A
Hamilton Bulldogs forward Jan Mysak recorded his second hat-trick of the season, powering the Hamilton Bulldogs past visiting Sault Ste. Marie 5-2. Mysak finished the afternoon with four points, giving him at least a point in five of his last six outings. The 17-year-old from Litvinov, Czech Rep. now has 12 goals and 17 points through his first 14 OHL contests after joining Hamilton upon returning from the World Juniors. The 2020 NHL Draft prospect was the 20th overall pick of the 2019 CHL Import Draft.
2ND STAR: JOE VRBETIC (NORTH BAY BATTALION) – 41 SV SO
Rookie goaltender Joe Vrbetic stopped all 41 shots that came his way to help the North Bay Battalion bust out of an eight-game funk. The Troops defeated the Barrie Colts 4-0 on the road as Vrbetic secured his first career shutout. The 6-foot-6 product of Dunvegan, Ont. improves to 10-24-0-0 on the campaign with a 4.46 goals-against average and .877 save percentage. Vrbetic was North Bay’s second round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection from the Don Mills Flyers Minor Midgets. He spent last season with the NOJHL’s Powassan VooDoos, posting a 2.80 goals-against average and .928 save percentage over 30 games.
3RD STAR: JACK PHIBBS (FLINT FIREBIRDS) – 2G, 1A
Flint Firebirds overage forward Jack Phibbs scored twice and added an assist as his club skated to its 12th straight win. Phibbs opened the scoring and tied things up at three with 2:44 remaining, forcing overtime and a shootout where the Firebirds would prevail over the Guelph Storm for a final score of 4-3. Phibbs has a total of 14 goals and 25 points through 51 games this season. The 20-year-old native of Hagersville, Ont. is in his fourth season with the Firebirds after originally being the club’s seventh round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.
