WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Merrimack College women’s hockey team was selected to finish ninth in the Hockey East 2020-21 preseason poll as announced by the league Friday.
The Warriors finished 10th during the 2019-20 season after a 5-24-5 overall season, with two wins and five ties in conference play. Selected by coaches to finish behind the Warriors are Holy Cross, which finished last year with 12 league points.
Elsewhere in the poll, nationally ranked No. 3 Northeastern was picked finish first overall and garnered nine first-place votes. No. 9 Boston University was selected second with one first-place vote, with Boston College and UConn rounding out the top four.
Merrimack returns to play with nine newcomers to the squad, joining the 16 returners to the squad including captain Megan Fergusson and assistant captains Dominika Laskova and Courtney Maud. The team is looking for its third playoff berth in the program’s sixth season.
The Warriors open the 2020-21 campaign on Friday, Nov. 21 at Lawler Rink when they open up the year against Providence College.
