The OHL’s Red Tilson Trophy recipient for the 2019-20 season will represent his country at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Marco Rossi, who put up a CHL-leading 120 points (39-81–120) over 56 games with the Ottawa 67’s last season, broke the news on his Twitter account Thursday afternoon.

A 19-year-old native of Feldkirch, Austria, Rossi will represent his country in its first appearance at the World Juniors since 2010. The talented centreman was selected ninth overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2020 NHL Draft. Upon signing his entry-level contract with Minnesota, the Wild loaned him to the ZSC (Zurich) Lions of the Swiss Elite League where he has posted an assist in his lone game played of 2020-21. Wild general manager Bill Guerin announced Thursday that the club would be making him available for the annual World Junior showcase.
The second of back-to-back Red Tilson Trophy recipients of European descent, Rossi was a first team OHL all-star in 2019-20 after guiding the 67’s to their second consecutive Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the first place team in the Ontario Hockey League standings. His 2.14 points-per-game were the highest by a Red Tilson Trophy recipient since Erie’s Connor McDavid (2.55) in 2014-15.
Austria gained entry into the 2021 World Juniors in Edmonton by winning last year’s World Junior Division I Group A championship that was held in Minsk, Belarus.
The Austrians open up their World Junior Selection Camp with a 36-man roster on Saturday in St. Polten under head coach Roger Bader. They’ll take on the United States in their World Junior opener on December 26th.
