OHL News – Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer returns for the 2019-20 regular season bringing fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.
This week’s segment features rising Saginaw Spirit star Cole Perfetti who set a franchise record for goals by a rookie, netting 37 as a 16-year-old last season. He continued his offensive tear into the summer, turning heads at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with nine points (2-7–9) over five games to help Canada earn silver.
A 17-year-old native of Whitby, Ont., Perfetti is considered one of the top prospects for the 2020 NHL Draft as he enters his sophomore campaign in the OHL. He was originally Saginaw’s first round (5th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
Perfetti chats with Doyle about his tremendous rookie season in addition to his experience representing Canada in the Czech Republic this past summer.
Doyle also made mention of the OHL’s expanded video review measures coming into effect once all 20 of the league’s member teams have the necessary technological equipment installed in their facilities. Enhanced video replay will include the addition of a new coach’s challenge for goaltender interference. Officials will also be automatically reviewing all major/match penalties assessed to validate the original call on the ice. In addition, the video tablets in the penalty box will also be available to the on-ice officials to review potential offside plays. Learn more about those new measures here.
