1ST STAR: AKIL THOMAS (PETERBOROUGH PETES) – 2G, 4A
Los Angeles Kings prospect Akil Thomas posted a career-high six point performance, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists in the Peterborough Petes’ 12-1 takedown of his former team, the Niagara IceDogs. The 20-year-old centreman from Scarborough, Ont. found the back of the net in the first and second periods and now owns 84 points (20-64—84) on the year, good for second in Peterborough scoring and fifth overall in assists. The Team Canada World Junior gold medalist was drafted 12th overall at the 2016 OHL Priority Selection by the IceDogs and spent three and a half seasons with them until he was traded to the Petes this past January. Thomas was a second round draft pick of the Kings at the 2018 NHL Draft.
2ND STAR: ZACH GALLANT (PETERBOROUGH PETES) – 2G, 3A
San Jose Sharks prospect Zach Gallant posted a career-high five-point showing, registering two goals and three assists in the Petes’ 12-1 win over the IceDogs Sunday afternoon. The overage product of Oakville, Ont. scored in the second and third periods, lifting his point total to 64 (33-31—64) on the season for fifth in team scoring. The 21-year-old centreman is wrapping up his fifth season with the Petes, having been drafted fifth overall at the 2015 OHL Priority Selection. He was originally a third round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2017 before going unsigned. He helped the ECHL’s Tolledo Walleye reach the Kelly Cup Finals last spring with 12 points (6-6–12) in 24 playoff games. Gallant signed as a free agent with San Jose last July.
3RD STAR: MATEJ PEKAR (SUDBURY WOLVES) – 1G, 4A
Buffalo Sabres prospect Matej Pekar scored a goal and four assists to help his Sudbury Wolves to an 8-0 blanking of the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. The 20-year-old native of Turnov, Czech Repub. scored early in the middle frame to earn his 28th goal of the season. The winger holds 63 points over 51 games in his third OHL season. He was drafted by the Barrie Colts in the second round of the 2018 CHL Import Draft and was sent to the Wolves at the deadline this past January, where he’s amassed 34 points in 25 games (12-22—34). Pekar was chosen in the fourth round of the NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.
